Much like the Washington State Cougars, the Bombers haven't been wining pretty but they are 2-1 heading into the bye week. Samples hauled in the pass and ran 43 yards for the winning touchdown. Whitby then struck oil when he found Deric Samples wide open behind the Riverhawk line. Zach Whitby then found Cameron Simpson for 12 more. Josh Phillips was given the ball to start the drive and in four plays later had pushed the ball ahead 25 yards. Richland got the ball back at their own 12-yard line with only 3:30 remaining. Neither team could sustain a drive and late in the game it looked like overtime was inevitable. Whitby connected with Gibson McGeorge for a 26-yard gain, then followed with a 20-yard strike to Josh Phillips and finished on the ground with the running of Cameron Simpson for 25 more including a 2 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14.Īfter the Bombers scored, the defenses took over. Trying to mitigate the momentum the Riverhawks took into halftime, the Bombers started the second half quickly. Grady Graff hauled in a 23 yard touchdown pass from Zamora and the Riverhawks went into the halftime locker room with a 14-7 lead. Instead of eating up clocktime, they just decided to get it done quickly. As luck would have it, though, the running attempt was stoned by the Riverhawk defense and the drive was over.Īfter a short Riverhawk drive, the Bombers got back to business this time embarking on an 8 minute, 18 play drive that hit paydirt when Zach Whitby connected with Nate Streufert and tied the score at 7-7.Ĭhiawana decided that wouldn't do. Prior to the snap on a 29-yard field goal attempt Chiawana jumped offsides, placing the ball at the 4-yard line with only one yard needed for the first down. Eleven plays later they found themselves inside the 10-yard line and out of downs. The Bombers looked to return the favor and started a methodical hike of their own. From the start they had you could hardly tell they had lost their first two games by a combined score of 46-14. Their first drive consumed 80 yards on 13 plays and ate up the first six minutes of the game. Lozano capped off the drive with a three yard touchdown run and the Riverhawks led 7-0. Next, the Riverhawks gave the ball to Joey Zamora and he promptly connected on four of his five passes to put Chiawana at the three yard line. In the first eight plays, Lozano had 36 yards and three first downs. The Riverhawks came out of the gate with a definite script: give the ball to Clifton Lozano and see how things go from there.
